QIAGEN N.V. (NYSE: QGEN; Frankfurt Prime Standard: QIA) hat heute bekannt gegeben, im Rahmen einer strategischen Zusammenarbeit gemeinsam mit der BioNTech SE (Nasdaq: BNTX) ein gewebebasiertes Begleitdiagnostikum entwickeln und vermarkten zu wollen, das in Kombination mit dem Krebsproduktkandidaten BNT113 zur Identifizierung von Patienten mit Plattenepithelkarzinomen in der Kopf-Hals-Region eingesetzt werden soll, die auf spezifische Infektionen mit dem humanen Papillomavirus (HPV) zurückzuführen sind.
Der Test, der auf die Präsenz von HPV-Genotypen reagiert, wird auf der RGQ MDx-Plattform von QIAGEN entwickelt, die zur QIAsymphony-Produktfamilie gehört.
QIAGEN plant, das Panel auch auf andere durch HP-Viren ausgelöste Krebsarten wie zum Beispiel Gebärmutterhalskrebs auszuweiten, um seinen Pharmapartnern ein universell einsetzbares Begleitdiagnostikum (CDx) anbieten zu können.
Beim Plattenepithelkarzinom am Kopf/Hals handelt es sich um die sechsthäufigste Krebsart. Laut einer weltweiten Krebsstudie aus dem Jahr 2018 erhalten jedes Jahr mehr als 650.000 Menschen diese Diagnose, 330.000 sterben daran. Die Weltgesundheitsorganisation erwartet bis 2035 eine Verdoppelung dieser Zahlen. In den letzten Jahren ist die Rate der von Plattenepithelkarzinomen in der Kopf-Hals-Region Betroffenen erheblich gestiegen.
QIAGEN hat den globalen HPV-Testmarkt vor über zwei Jahrzehnten begründet. Bisher wurden bereits mehr als 100 Millionen Frauen mit HPV-Produkten aus dem Portfolio von QIAGEN – darunter Hybrid-Capture-, Genotypisierungs- und Methylierungstests – auf HPV-Infektionen getestet.
